Dog Grooming Courses.
All of our dog grooming courses are designed to give you the skills you need to work as a professional dog groomer, whether working for someone else or starting your own dog grooming salon. We have four levels of residential grooming courses operated from our centre in Farnworth, just outside Bolton in Lancashire.
We Promise.
Poochy Paws courses DO NOT require any written coursework other than notes you may wish to take. Our vocational accredited training is 100% hands-on from day one. At Poochy Paws you will ALWAYS have a dog model to yourself – no sharing one between the whole class. And our post-course support service is totally and completely free for as long as you may need it.
Whats Included?
A dog first aid DVD, dog grooming equipment and grooming models are supplied on every Poochy Paws course. However, you are welcome to bring your own. We also include advice of what and where to purchase equipment upon graduation and how to obtain discounts from major suppliers. We understand that everyone is different, with varying obligations and requirements so please feel free to contact us and discuss anything you’d like – we don’t bite!
Level 1 Dog Grooming Certificate (5 days) – £700 per person.
Whether you want a glimpse into the dog grooming profession, or just need to refresh your skills, Poochy Paws Dog Grooming School’s Level 1 Dog Grooming Certificate is the course for you.
This dog grooming course is popular with those who already have some grooming experience or qualified hairdressers who already have the necessary scissoring and clipping skills and want to expand their skill by learning some breed-specific styles.
Over 5 days, you’ll gain hands-on experience grooming the most common breeds encountered in salons in the UK. You’ll be guided by an experienced grooming professional to help build your confidence and skills on your path to becoming a dog groomer.
Level 2 Dog Grooming Diploma (10 Days) – £1350 per person.
The great news is that to attend this accredited Level 2 Diploma, you can start your journey to becoming a qualified groomer with no previous experience.
So, 10 days to learn a new profession. Really? Absolutely! The wonderful thing about dog grooming is that, regardless of the breed you’re grooming, the preparation is always the same. They need a brush through, de-matting, pad trimming, nail clipping, ear clean/pluck, bath and dry. This leaves the more complex, breed-specific styling left to master. Once you’ve got the hang of the prep, you can sail through to concentrate on the styling, making the process a lot less daunting and time consuming.
You can expect to learn the tools of the trade, product suitability, handling, bathing/drying, nail clipping, ear plucking and technical, breed-specific clips. Learners receive a business pack and advice about how to set up and manage your new dog grooming business. There’s also a free dog first aid DVD for peace of mind and free on-going post-course advice and support for as long as you may need it.
Please note: You do not have to take our Level 1 course in order to attend this course.
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Dog Grooming (15 Days) – £1750 per person.
Get ready to be super confident because this is Poochy Paws Dog Grooming School’s ultimate confidence-building dog grooming course! Great if you want plenty of experience before you set up your own business. You do not need any previous experience to attend our accredited Level 3 Extended Diploma.
This course helps fine tune your styling technique so that, by the time you graduate, you’ll be grooming quicker therefore earning more money once your business opens. It also gives you time to become creative with your clipping and scissoring skills – you’ll be confidently whizzing along after completing our Level 3 training!
Over this extended course schedule, you get plenty of experience in our salon with our Head Trainer and can expect to learn the tools of the trade, product suitability, handling, bathing/drying, nail clipping, ear plucking and technical, breed-specific clips. Learners receive a business pack and advice about how to set up and manage your new dog grooming business. There’s also a free dog first aid DVD for peace of mind and free on-going post-course advice and support for as long as you may need it.
By the time you complete this dog grooming course, you’ll be able to groom any dog you meet!

Level 4 Extended Diploma in Dog Grooming (5 weeks) – £3500 per person.
At Poochy Paws Dog Grooming School you will gain plenty of experience before you set up your own business. This course helps tune up your styling technique so that, by the time you graduate, you’ll be grooming faster therefore making more money once you have your business up and running. It also gives you time to become creative with your clipping and scissoring skills – you’ll be confidently fly along after completing our Level 4 training!

1 Day Groom-Your-Own-Dog Course – £150 per person
Want to learn to groom your own dog but don’t want to take a full course? No problem! At Poochy Paws Dog Grooming School you can take our one day course. Bring your dog along and we’ll teach you how to pamper and preen them in the exact style you like.
This is also a good taster day for those wanting to try their hand at dog grooming before diving into a full course. Call to discuss your requirements.
